Robotech!

Another Japanese Post. *sigh* Don't worry, I don't have many of these.

Robotech was a force in the 80s. America was hit with it somewhat late, 1985, versus the surge that saw it in Japan in 1984. It was such a hit over there (called Macross) that it was quickly dubbed into English by Harmony Gold, and combined with two other tales (Southern Cross and Mospeda) to form 85 episodes that we consider The Robotech Saga.

It was such a big hit that Macross had an entire summer devoted to it in Japan. Yes, Japan, the short-attention-span-anime country. Mecha, albums, concerts, even gala events showing the complete 36-episode arc (only 36 episodes made up Macross) were thrown weekly. The music ranged from Neoclassical (as evidenced by the Opening Credits) to popular ("Stagefright" and "We will Win") both had chart presences. Interesting.

So, thanks to Double Friday, here are a couple of snippets. Enjoy.

Robotech Opening by Ulpio Minucci

The hated Lynn Minmei song "Stagefright." They played this for about 15 episodes. It made you want to throw up your shoes.

And the much better "We Will Win."
