And now, a video that was shown on MTV!

Sadly, you may have had to be as old as I am, and had been in the 5 places that had MTV, to have seen this video there. Classic tune, best remembered as the love song in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a book that was better than the movie, if you can believe it... but just barely. The soundtrack actually made the movie great. Seriously, read the book and compare.

"Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne. Totally great song.

Wow, I feel old.

"Alison." Could there be a better song for any Alison you know?

Coming Home...

Double Friday from Phineas and Ferb. Why? I can't think of anything more prolific than my favorite P+F songs. These are two.

Plus, the girl wanted it.

First, from Phineas and Ferb: "Come Home Perry."

Good Job, Larry.

Next up: "I got Rhythm." From Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together.

Somebody to Love

Queen. Rock Gods. Freddy Mercury. "Somebody to Love." Also, I love the fact that there are just beers across the font of the piano. Excellent.

Electric Light Orchestra. Not much more needs to be said, that i have not said already.

"Sweet Talking Woman." The first song I wanted to learn by heart.

"Mr. Blue Sky." God, this song was awesome.

"Wild West Hero." So awesome, totally unheard by many. The piano part is awesome. Enjoy your day, kids.

"Only Makes me Laugh," by Danny Elfman. My favorite song of all time. Great beat, fun horns, good harmonics.

"When I find myself falling and I hit the bottom... it only makes me laugh."

A Little Rock and Roll

Styx. A winding river in Hell that Charon, the Eternal Boatman, navigates.

I remember when bands had awesome names. Styx. Night Ranger. *cough* Air Supply *cough* Sorry about that last one.

Anyway, Styx's "Renegade." From the wail of Dennis DeYoung to the solid strains of the guitar, this song rocked. Hard. Devilishly.

And since I'm in a double-threat mood, I'm adding "Too Much Time on My Hands." This was a fun video, back when MTV had videos.

I always wanted my hair to do that.

Me and Julio

Simon and Garfunkel. Two every talented musicians, and a great duo. Fraught with infighting and personal angst later, it's almost like they were married. However, save the Carpenters (and look how well that turned out), not a loot of duos had true staying power. However, these two kings of New York had folk music down pat, the style of the late 60s early 70s.

Enjoy two of my favorites. I love the harmonies, the back beat and the simple stylings.

"Me and Julio down by the Schoolyard."

And a Sunday favorite, "Kodachrome."

My Baby!

Or... Somebodys Baby, actually. From Jackson Browne, a great soloist.

This song was featured in the great movie, "Fast times at Ridgemont High," which, apart from popular belief, was done about Clairemont High School in San Diego, CA. Yes, in the movie, the Swensens was at UTC (Univeristy Towne Center), and the place where this song plays is the Clairemont HS baseball field's dugout. I have heard this fallacy everywhere for everyone's school... sorry, Clairemont is where C. Crowe went undercover.. therefore, the frame of reference is solidly in Clairemont/La Jolla, San Diego.

I don't know why, but I really get irritated at this. I mean, most of you have seen the movie, hoe many of you have gotten in trouble from reading the actual book in class? Such awesomeness.

The Load Out/Stay, from the same artist. I wish I could give you a better recording. I can't complain about this one, however, it's really good.

Anyway, enjoy your week, kids. My mortality is creeping up on me. 7 days until the big 40. Eff me.

Orchestral Manouevers in the Dark. The most annoyingly spelled band. But excellent in tune. Here's "Secret," a fine Sunday tune. Crappy, 80's pop at its finest.

Country hits on Double Friday!

"Sold," by John Michael Montgomery.. Classic Country/Western tune. Awesome guitar.

And we can't have Country without Garth Brooks. "The Thunder Rolls."

Interesting thing.... I hated country music until this beautiful girl broke my heart. I loved it.

So, one more Garth Brooks song... "The Dance."

But you know what... if I'm going to inundate you with GB, I won't leave you with a downer...
Welcome to "Ireland."

Have a great weekend, all you beautiful people.

Take it Off.

You know you want to. Hard guitars, excellent bassline, angry, sexual lyrics. Cute girls that love to play good music. Makes the video even cooler. Excellent driving song. Really, what more could you ask for in a song?

I gotta admit, I always had a crush on the drummer. She rocks.

Is it it?

Huey Lewis and the News. "If this is It." I needed a song from the seminal album, Sports. Did you know that it was one of the best selling albums in the 80s?

Wow, 5 number one singles?

Yeah, tough to understand that this was one of the best bands of the 80's. I'm watching the video now, wishing I were there. Walking with the girl at the end of the video. No, not the mom. I miss the girls of the 80s. Seriously.

And you know what? There needs to be one more today. "'Til the Day After." From the album Perfect World.

I'm cheating, I don't care. I'm on the downhill slope.

I Ain't Got Nobody...

So, this post is a little strange. Everyone has heard this song before, I know it. However, this is an excellent mono recording from a TV.

Why am I playing this song? Well, it's actually something that they used to play for my parents. Really. Apparently, at the lounge my dad used to take my mom to, they played this every time they walked in. Seriously. Totally strange. Anyway, it was their anniversary just a few days ago, and I meant to put this out. I feel a little remiss, so I'm getting to it today.

"Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody," by Louis Prima. Back when standards meant something.

Dance Dance

I miss videos. I grew up with MTV back when they actually played them. The spaceship, the Astronaut, Martha Quinn. Yum.

Flash to today. No one makes videos any more. If they do, you never see them. That's why its so awesome to see something like the video below.

"Dance ,Dance," by Fall out Boy.

The Morbid Post

So, I'm feeling tugs of my own mortality, kids. I heard the original of this song the week after my father passed away. While I don't really describe my dad as Emo, per se, I think he would have liked the tune. Every time I hear it, I think of him. However, lately, I have been thinking about life and death, probably due to my turning 40 soon. Very soon. Too soon.

If I do pass on, there is something that I would really, really like. I'd really like my daughter to sing this at my funeral. Honestly, I would miss her most of all. Sod the rest, since the material crap doesn't matter. To me (and every Father should agree with this sentiment), she's perfection.

"Cancer" by My Chemical Romance. Acoustic. Haunting. Love the guitar work here. It's why I want it played.

Happy Sunday.

I Know You Will Like This One

Cake. "I Will Survive."

The guitar work on this is awesome, the lyrics are excellent. The trumpet is a really nice addition. Sometimes you need to hear this, sometimes you need to sing this. So, sing. Trust me, you will feel better.
