A Stunning Bout of Insomnia

...Lead to reading of a new TPB. The Umbrella Academy kept me up. I am awake after reading it. Devouring it. Amazing, compelling, yet something about it was somewhat formulaic. Maybe it was the juxtaposition between comic and music, but I could sense what would happen and when... maybe I've read too many comics and books and the plotlines intersect once to often in my head. But I digress...

So today's musical episode is from Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. I don't know what it is about Russian composers... the use of heavy brass, the penchant for waltzes, the grand, over-the-top movements? Whatever it is, it fit the mood perfectly. I wanted a violin for tonight, this selection seemed to soothe my quest.

Valse No. 2 from Jazz Suite. Perfect, but damnable short. The world needs more of these, yet I'm glad these pieces are so rare. It makes finding them all that much more worthwhile.

Also, Gerard Way, from My Chemical Romance wrote Umbrella. I found that incredibly interesting.
